Hi guys, Thanks again for your insightful comments on my previous Animation:)
And here we are, my 2008 showreel is finally finished! it's a bit late to say 2008 showreel, isn't it! Because now we are alreadly in May! Anyway, I am excited about it and hope you guys can give me some advice on my reel. i appreciate it and will do it better:)

About the background music, i am still looking for a better one. If anyone has one to contribute, that would be great! thanks again!

The past and the present- Bubble Gum Animation

Alright, this Bubble Gum Animation is rather interesting this time, as i did the same one when i studied in St Martins a year ago and the new version few weeks ago.
See if you guys can tell the improvement on my Animation skills or am i worst than before....... cheers:)

weight and force

Hello guys, many thanks for the previous comments. All are good points and useful, thanks David for the cool tricks. i'll improve it:)
After the previous Animation, i was thinking of animating weight and force on the move. so, I decided a guy to lift up a heavy box. Trying to do reverse lines on his body along the move.

The background voice of this LipSycn is Bruce Lee's voice. The 3D model is by C. J. Cow. It's a very cool 3D model which has gender switcher, body size adjustment and a good facial rig.
There are somethings i'd like to share with you guys here. Which is the process of animating this piece. I'm sure some of you have come accross it alreadly...was i too slow to discover it...to be late better than doing nothing, right:)
Anyway, this Animation took me quite a long time to achieve somethings i like so far. I really studied and stuck to a decent workflow techniques along the process. I found its really useful and i was more confident to animate. In my opinion, the more you put on preparation(research and thumbnails), the less pain you will have later when animate in computer. I think i did 40% on the preparation for this LipSycn and 60% in computer. I have to say it was pain when i was tweaking stuff in computer later on. This's due to the unclear stage of my thumnails and it caused me a nightmare and wasted even more time to fix things around. Well, i've learnt from it and will certainly do it better next time.
However, i had some fun and have felt more enthusiastic to do Animation. If there's no fun in animating, what's the point of doing it, rite:) haha...talking too much now. sorry guys, i just want to pass my experience on and hope i can get some tips from you how to animate better and faster:)
And last thing, I have to say i'm lucky that i have a bunch of friends who likes to share knowledge about Animation often. cheers mates..haha..you're bravo!!

Another dog Animation. but this time the dog is pushing forwards and pulling a girl behind it. That's still some problem on the rig of the rope which needed to be improved. David, i'll need your help on the rig soon:)cheers
I think the time length for this Animation is short to see, isn't it? if yes, i'll upload a longer one:)

This little young dog is so fun and vivacious to animate. The first time i saw it, then i said i wanted to animate it troting. The dog's legs are rather difficult to animate...

Wondeful Life (work in progress)

my recent inspiration - Wonderful Life.
It is about the road to success, to have strong will to get through the long hard struggling period before you reach your goal or dream. One of my friends told me' if you want to get the rainbow, you have to put up the rain first.' so, i reckon nothing can be reapped without sowing.

This is only the initial idea for this project at the moment. Many other elements needed to be added in such as moving clouds, other little naughty creatures ( as obstacles ), the blossom of the sunflower and so on. I wish this work could be published as MTV for a song or a sountrack one day, cause i feel there're many potential energy lurking behind this clip.(haha..thinking too much)enjoy it *cheers.

Moreover, to all my Animation fellows, wish you all can get through all the obstacles and find a good job just like the little buddy in the clip standing up and smiling on the sunflower:)

Fighting Temeraire Project

The Last Berth Of The Fighting Temeraire
The final project, we collabolate with The National Gallery. Choosing a painting and develope the idea into Animation form.
The painting called 'The finghting Temeraire' by Turner is the painting inspired me. What caught my eyes: The sadness of the sunset and the cruel turn of the new era.

I found some sentences which describe the painting thoroughly:
''The ghostly Temeraire glides solemly to its death,
towed by a funeral tug belching fire and soot,
as the sun sets in glory and a pale new moon rises.''

This warship had bravely played an important role in the Battle of Trafalgar. But she ended her days in the age of steam. The kind of feeling i caught cannot be express clealy here. It's like the feeling of big loss, abandonment..... I reckon this suffering feeling happens among our lives.

So, my idea is creating a spiritual human-like Temeraire dancing for her last berth. As she dances, there are some images of her glorious days flashing out in the background. Thus, It's the mixed style of 2D and 3D.

Finally, these are some final scenes of the project. i'm not really satisfied with the Model, Rig and the Animation, it looks still alright for my first time though. The whole project took me around 2 months to finish. It was pretty hard work,i must say:- everthing is worth it though:) cause i learned a lot of new stuff.

This is my first project in Centra St. Martins! The story is about a hungry guy trying to open his last jar of sausage at midnight. But in the end, he finds a terrific worm inside the jar:(
This is a rough storybording Animatics, which i used to estimate the timing of the clip. And then, i started to finish it in Maya.
